Welcome back to the 12 Days of Sustainability – Day 9 🐝 Beewax Wrap
Beeswax wrap is an environmentally friendly alternative to other food storage wraps like plastic cling wrap or aluminum foil. Beeswax paper is made from biodegradable ingredients that break down in landfills, which make it a great zero waste wrap solution.
It’s All Natural
Made from all organic ingredients and materials (typically organic cotton, beeswax, some type of plant oil and tree resin), beeswax food wrap is a very natural way to store and preserve cut-into fruits and vegetables, cheeses and crusty breads. The materials are also 100% compostable, meaning beeswax food wrap is capable of disintegrating into natural elements in a compost environment, leaving no toxicity in the soil.
It’s Biodegradable
This is the main benefit and reason why everyone should shift to this product. The goal is to reduce litters, and that is precisely what you get from beeswax wraps. They are biodegradable as the protective wax coating wears away over time. This means that once you are done using it, you can bury the wrap, rest assured that it will disappear over time. This is something that you cannot get from plastic covers.
It Lasts for Ages
The covers are reusable, and this is not only helpful in reducing waste but also, they help you save money as you don’t have to go back to the market every time you need to store food. The fact that they are reusable is that you do not have to dispose of it after one use, thus ideal for keeping your homestead clean.
