Sustainability at Dreamforce 2018

Sustainability at Dreamforce 2018

Dreamforce is much more than just a software conference. This four day event brings together thought leaders, industry pioneers and thousands of IT professionals to learn, teach, and collaborate. Dreamforce sparks inspiration in the industry but is also setting the standard for event and corporate sustainability.

Dreamforce is dedicated to sustainability and wellness

Salesforce has an entire team dedicated to implementing sustainable practices both at Dreamforce and in the Salesforce offices! This year, they are focusing on four initiatives to ensure sustainability at Dreamforce:

  1. Inspiring attendees

When you walk into the Dreamforce campus you truly feel encompassed by environmental values! With the National Parks theme, you are immersed in a landscape that is celebrating the outdoors and the importance of conserving the environment. Their goal is to inspire attendees and businesses to acquire these same values and take action to help save the environment!

  1. Sourcing Responsibly

The sustainability team at Salesforce kept the environment in mind with every aspect of the event. One of the most unique installations were the upcycled shipping containers. What was once trash, is now repurposed across the venue. Salesforce also made sure to responsibly source all of the food that was served across the venue.

  1. Conserving Resources

Dreamforce is always thinking of new ways to conserve resources, especially water with the recent droughts in California. On Tuesday, Sept 25th Dreamforce went beefless. They provided alternative meats and proteins for lunch which saved 3.5 million gallons of water! This year, all attendees were also given reusable water bottles and were able to fill up with FloWater Refill Stations across the campus. Did you know that it takes twice the amount of water to make a plastic bottle as the amount that is contained in the bottle? This means that every time attendees refilled their reusable bottle with FloWater, they were actually helping to conserve water! Attendees were also encouraged to conserve energy by using bike powered charging stations for their various devices!

  1. Reducing Waste

Not only did the reusable bottles help to conserve water, but they were also instrumental in helping to reduce plastic water bottle waste. Last year attendees saved over 75,000 single-use plastic bottles when they re-filled their bottles with FloWater, this we expect to exceed that number! Not only were single use plastic water bottles were avoided at all cost, but all of the lunch packaging was 100% compostable, which helped to reduce waste that would normally end up in the landfill.
